This year’s Cornhole for a Cause raised approximately $14,000 in net proceeds to support Schenectady Rotary’s work in the coming year. A portion will support our ongoing involvement at Keane Elementary School, with the remainder helping fund scholarships, grants, and other club service projects.
- Nearly 100 players participated, including several who traveled from out of state. The day ran smoothly from start to finish, and players once again shared how much they enjoy the experience and look forward to returning each year.
- An incredible 21 Rotary members volunteered between 7:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Their time, energy, and teamwork created a welcoming, well-organized, and fun event for everyone involved.
- The event also provided outstanding visibility for Rotary. Special thanks to Joanne DeVoe and Al Roney for sharing their public-relations expertise. The event was featured in the Daily Gazette, including an above-the-fold article in the Sports section the following day.
- Schenectady Rotary also appeared on two live news programs, with thanks to Lisa Jackson, Nick Clay, Andy Chestnut, and Donna Tessitore for representing the club. Three news outlets attended the event, helping the community see that Rotary is alive, well, and actively serving.
- Keane Elementary School hosted a table, and Superintendent Dr. Cotto joined us during the afternoon. He gave the Air Mail Challenge his best effort, but we wish him better luck next year!
- Special thanks to Nick Clay for donating his DJ services and keeping the event upbeat throughout the day; Julie Seiz for managing the Wheelbarrow of Beer raffle; Elena Alvarez and Laura Erano for coordinating the basket and lottery raffles; and Milan Jackson for printing the event signs and posters.
- We are grateful to every member who sold or purchased raffle tickets, donated prizes, volunteered, promoted the event, participated, or helped behind the scenes. This was truly a team effort—and it was a lot of fun!
- We also extend our sincere appreciation to the businesses and individuals who sponsored the event. Their generosity is essential to our ability to serve the community. We are especially grateful for our many repeat sponsors, to Rivers Casino for donating the event space, and to Home Instead, our “Boss of the Toss” sponsor for the fourth consecutive year.
- Knowing that we have the resources to make a meaningful impact sets us up for a Rotary year filled with possibilities. Members are encouraged to attend the upcoming budget and service committee meetings and help shape the future priorities of our club.
