This year the Schenectady Rotary club received eight applications for our annual scholarships. Two applicants were selected to each receive a $1500 scholarship. Congratulations to Azara Dobbs and Cole Bogdanowicz-Wilson!

Azara Dobbs became a college student at age 16 as an enrollee in the Para Legal Studies program at SUNY Schenectady where she is earning an associate’s degree in criminal justice, all the while attending Schenectady High School where she maintains a 4.0 accumulative average. Her long-term goal is to be a lawyer. She has a deep commitment to social issues as exemplified in her volunteer work with SICM, the Regional Food Bank (with over 50 hours service this past year), Things of My Very Own, and other local social service agencies. AND she works at Dunkin’ Donuts. She will continue her studies at SUNY Albany.

Cole Bogdanowicz-Wilson has been enrolled in STEM focused “Rise High” for the past seven years. He is naturally curious and is particularly interested in physics and philosophy. Cole belongs to Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara’s Student Cabinet, serves on the Electric City Recharged Advisory Committee, served as Vice President of National Honor Society, plays the trump and is in the Tri-M Music Honors Society, belongs to the Chess Club, French Club, Mock Trial Club, Robotics Club, and International Travel Club. He is President of his class at SHS where he represents all students as a student member of the Schenectady Board of Education. Summers find Cole on  the Food and Beverage Team at Great Escape. Cole stated that he “hopes to embody the spirit of service and thoughtful engagement that organizations like Schenectady Rotary foster.” ‘ Cole will study Physics at Rochester Institute  of Technology where he was awarded $38,000 in scholarship support.
